Why This Matters

Pursuing a legal education is both a challenging and costly journey. For many aspiring lawyers, financial barriers can limit access to opportunities and undermine their ability to focus on their studies. Scholarships play a vital role in motivating and supporting law students by recognizing their potential and investing in their future. They not only reduce the financial burden but also affirm a student’s commitment to justice, service, and leadership.
The Anand S. Bhatt Memorial Fund was established in memory of the late Anand S Bhatt, a respected and accomplished lawyer who was tragically lost in the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. Created by his wife and colleagues at Wadia Ghandy& Co., the fund honors his legacy by supporting the aspirations of future legal professionals. With a deep commitment to justice and equity, the fund provides scholarships to deserving law students, nurturing a new generation of lawyers who will help build a more just society. In partnership with the IDIA Charitable Trust, these scholarships aim to empower talented individuals from diverse backgrounds to pursue their legal education and make a meaningful impact.

The Difference We’ve Made

Yash is a visually challenged student from Mumbai, currently pursuing his BLS LL.B at Government Law College. Studying in a mainstream school came with its challenges, but it instilled in him resilience and adaptability. While he enjoys music and cricket, his true passion lies in law. He aspires to become a dedicated legal professional and contribute meaningfully to improving the country’s social and economic landscape.

Anshuman Sharma, a third-year B.L.S. LL.B. (Hons.) student at Government Law College, Mumbai, hails from a farming family. During his school years, he served as the school captain and boldly led a student strike against unfair school policies, even in the face of threats from local authorities. This experience sparked his interest in law, as he witnessed firsthand its potential to challenge authority and uphold justice. He aims to join a law firm and pursue further specialization.
