Why This Matters

For many poor cancer patients coming from out of town, the journey to seek treatment is filled with uncertainty and hardship. Far from home, they often face language barriers and are unfamiliar with the city, making it difficult to navigate even the simplest tasks. On top of battling a serious illness, they must also cope with the added stress of not knowing where they will stay. When someone is sick, all they want is a place to rest, to heal, and to feel safe—but for these patients, the basic need for accommodation becomes yet another challenge to face in an already difficult journey.
BCPT partnered with Deepsikha, supported one of the four Arogya Bhavans providing assistance for 72 dormitory accommodations at Assam Bhawan, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, along with food grain donations during the Covid pandemic. The Arogya Bhavans provides crucial support to cancer patients who travel to Mumbai seeking treatment, offering affordable accommodation at a nominal rate. For those unable to pay, the foundation ensures free lodging, along with comprehensive logistical support to help them continue their treatment. A canteen is available on-site, serving meals at concessional rates to ease the burden. This facility, located at Assam Bhavan in Navi Mumbai, caters to both patients and their attendants, offering them a safe and supportive space during their challenging journey.

Our Intervention

The Difference We’ve Made

The Arogya Bhavans has been a vital source of relief for cancer patients already burdened by the trauma of their illness. By offering affordable accommodation and free lodging for those in need, the facility provides not just a roof, but a sense of stability during an uncertain time. Patients from across the country have found comfort here, easing the emotional and logistical stresses of their treatment journey. This support has allowed them to focus on their health rather than the overwhelming burden of where to stay, offering them both a physical and emotional sanctuary as they face the challenges of their illness with renewed hope and strength.

About the Organisation
