Why This Matters

Many youth with disabilities struggle to find jobs due to workplaces that are not inclusive or accessible. From physical barriers like lack of ramps or assistive technology to attitudinal challenges such as stigma and low expectations, they face multiple layers of exclusion. Even when skilled and willing to work, they are often overlooked during hiring or placed in roles that do not match their potential. These barriers not only limit their independence but also deepen social and economic inequality.
The Halbe Kumar Chakrabarti Fund has successfully provided employment and financial support to 8 disabled micro-entrepreneurs, all of whom had previously undergone skills training with Youth4Jobs Foundation. These entrepreneurs, in the early stages of their businesses, demonstrated strong potential but needed targeted assistance to grow. With the support of the funds, they strengthened their enterprises and enhanced income stability.

Our Intervention

The Difference We’ve Made

The intervention has had a significant impact on the disabled entrepreneurs, leading to a 25-40% increase in their earnings, with all seven now operating sustainable businesses. This support has not only helped them achieve financial stability and independence but has also fostered a sense of community inclusion. Many beneficiaries expressed a desire to hire or mentor others with disabilities as their businesses grow, creating a ripple effect of empowerment. Some individuals demonstrated exceptional business growth, gaining newfound confidence and motivation to uplift others, furthering the cycle of positive change.
