Why This Matters

In the shadowed corners of rural and tribal villages, where electricity is scarce or unreliable, the simple act of lighting a home remains a daily struggle. For families in these areas, darkness isn’t just an inconvenience, it’s a barrier to education, safety, and economic opportunity. While city dwellers take for granted the glow of a bulb at the flip of a switch, millions in remote communities rely on dim kerosene lamps that are costly, hazardous, and harmful to health.
This initiative is a shining example of collaborative community action. The American Club for International Women, BCPT, and the Sharadashram Foundation joined forces to bring light and livelihood to underserved villages of Dharmapur, Vikramgad, Mokhada. Shraddhashram led hands-on solar lantern assembly workshops, equipping local residents with practical skills and sustainable knowledge. These sessions empowered individuals and fostered a sense of pride and ownership. The completed lanterns were distributed to nearby families, ensuring the light—both symbolic and real—reached those who needed it most. This partnership shows how coordinated efforts and grassroots empowerment can spark lasting change, lighting up villages, homes, and lives.

Our Intervention

The Difference We’ve Made

The impact of this initiative is both personal and far-reaching. By replacing kerosene and paraffin candles with solar lanterns, end users are reducing carbon emissions and saving money. Trained locals have gained practical skills and a renewed sense of self-confidence, proving their potential in renewable energy—even through brief training. Many are now independently assembling lanterns and exploring lighting solutions for their homes and communities. Access to clean, reliable light has opened up new opportunities—children can study at night, adults can work longer hours, and entire families are discovering new ways to learn, earn, and grow with the power of the sun.
